In August of 2010, her brother was driving to college when he set his cruise control on 75 mph, fell asleep at the wheel, and crashed. Cody’s injuries were extensive and included badly broken legs, crushed feet and severe nerve damage. The only reason that Cody is alive today is because he was buckled up. Wearing a seat belt has always been a rule in Raygan’s home, but sadly, Arkansas is ranked 46th in the nation in usage. She decided to start a program to encourage seat belt use and to educate children and teenagers about being a safe rider and avoiding the dangers of distractions while driving.
Her program is called “Think S.A.F.E.: Seatbelts Are For Everyone.” Raygan has partnered with Arkansas Children’s Hospital, UAMS, and the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office on projects to promote vehicle safety. Her mission is to spread the word that wearing a seat belt is your best defense against death or serious injury in car crashes. In the past three years she has initiated several different education programs about vehicle safety and been able to speak to more than 3,000 students. Raygan is a 2014 Coca Cola Scholars Foundation scholarship recipient. She was the North Little Rock Mayor’s Youth Council Volunteer of the Year in 2013  and was named a finalist for the Nestle Very Best in Youth program.
